Pruebas de patogenicidad de tres especies de Armillaria en Pseudotsuga menziensii

ABSTRACT:     Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco, also known as Oregon pine, is a conifer indigenous of North America (Vega et al., 1998). At present, it is considered a species interesting for reforesting due to the good quality of its wood. In Galician forests, P. menziesii has been affected by several diseases, caused by fungus, among them the white root rot caused by Armillaria mellea (Vega et al., 1998). Armillaria genus comprises species with different pathogenic behaviour. So far, all symptoms of white root rot observed were thought to be caused by Armillaria mellea due to the inexistence of a rapid and reliable system of identification. But recently with the use of PCR-RFLP techniques four species: A. mellea, A. gallica, A. ostoyae and A.cepistipes were identified in Galicia. A. mellea and A. gallica, were detected in P. menziensii samples submitted to the Estación Fitopatolóxica do Areeiro (EFA) for analysis, whereas A. ostoyae, the most pathogenic species on conifers, was only found on pine. It is the first study on the pathogenic behaviour of these species. The aim of this work was to evaluate the pathogenicity on P. menziesii plant A. mellea, A. ostoyae and A. gallica.
