ASBTRACT:      Kiwi plantations need to obtain a higher number of fruits with a size adequate for the market. The application of exogenous plant regulators has been an alternative to obtain this type of fruits. Results obtained were positive regarding performance, but controversial in terms of modification of physiological development, fruit quality properties or preservation. The behaviour of kiwifruit growing in our conditions was tested, by applying three hormones (gibberellin, auxin and cytokinin). The effect was evaluated, not only on morphometric parameters but on carbohydrates concentration: starch, glucose, and fructose, being them the main indicators of fruit quality, and these elements can be used to study in depth the endogenous mechanisms implicated in the final response of the crop. The assays were performed in 1999 in two kiwi plantations: Carragal and Piñeiro, located in Tomiño (Pontevedra). Each site comprised three blocks, which were subjected to three treatments randomly applied. Each experimental unit was composed by three female plants. On June 4th fruit applications of 0.8% w/v 2,4D, 1.0% w/v ANA (Laingorde), Fenotiol 2% w/v (HFCalibra) and CPPU (Forchlorfenuron) 10g/l (Sitofex).were performed.
