ABSTRACT: The camellia was originated in southern Asia,
however since it was introduced in Galicia in the beginning of the 19th
century, its culture gradually disseminated around the region , and at present
it is considered one of the most important ornamental plants in the Rías
Baixas estuary, and can be found almost in every garden and park in Galicia,
although can be also found in other public and private areas in Galicia. Given
its importance, which is also favoured by its winter blooming, several exhibits
and associations have been created around this flower. Thus, the number of
camellia growers was also increased. Without any doubt, we can say that at
present the camellia is the most important ornamental plant in our
region.
