ABSTRACT: P.
ramorumis the causal agent of a devastating disease in USA, popularly known
as Sudden Oak Death (SOD). This pathogen, which had been previously described
in Germany and Holland in 2001 as a new species inside Phytophthora
genus - from Rhododendron y Viburnum isolates - established
itself along the California Coast, affecting several native species. In Europe,
so far, this pathogen has only been detected affecting the above ground part of
the plant, specially on ornamental species, and was included in the EPPO Alert
List, under European Union regulations by Commission decision (2002/757/CE) and
modified in April 29th 2004 ( 2004/426/CE).
