ABSTRACT: Box (Buxus sempervirens) is s shrub
species widely disseminated in Europe, and can be found both in the wild or in
gardens as an ornamental plant and its wood has been extensively used for
furniture or tools for years. The introduction of the species is not clear but
can be seen in the gardens of manor houses. Some of the specimens found in
these old historic gardens can be considered as part of our heritage, since due
to their slow growth, those individuals with a considerable tall appearance,
are regarded as old plants. At present, in the Galician parks and gardens, they
are still used as an ornamental species, and so it is important not to neglect
their care and attention. Thus, a survey was carried out to check their
sanitary condition in the Galician gardens and parks.
