ABSTRACT:      In the last years, the taxonomy of the genus was performed using several molecular markers, although results were not completely successful. In the present work, markers RAPD (random amplificed polymorphic DNA) were used to differentiate 16 Camellia plant species, whose first identification was unknown, although some of them showed similar agromorphological characteristics.
Shoots and flower buds (fresh, frozen and ) from C. caudata, C. euryoides, C. grijsii, C. japonica, C. longicarpa, C. lutchuensis, C. maliflora, C. oleifera, C. polyodonta, C. salicifolia, C. sasanqua, C. sinensis, C. taliensis, C. transnokoensis, C. yuhsienensis, y C. yunnanensis. were taken. The fresh material were collected in three different sites in Pontevedra (La Saleta, Soutomaior y Areeiro). 24 primers were screened, only 4 generated band patterns which repeated in all . 147 bands ranging from 300 to 1500 pb, of which 56 were polymorphic and 23 specific for any of the species
