XVLI International Camellia Contest-Exhibition in Pontevedra

The 46th International Camellia Contest-Exhibition in Pontevedra was held at the Sixth building of the Pontevedra Provincial Museum. Around 50 camellia growers participated in the contest. Apart from the participation of the contestants, the exhibit had the participation of private individuals who showed their flowers out of competition as well as other types of contribution all related to the Camellia Flower: gold and jewels, drawings, pictures, photographs, postcards, stamps, ect..

The most important prize of the exhibition, "The Camellia Gold Award" was given to the most outstanding participant, José Torres Rego. The growers Carmen Corral Luengo and Carmen González Santaya were awarded with the Special Awards: "Antonio Odriozola" and the one granted by the Spanish Camellia Society. As regards the awards for Best artistic presentation, they were given to Lelita Gradín (first) and María Rodríguez.

The rest of the prizes were given to the following exhibitors: Fernando Vila Gómez, Eusebio López Redondo and Rosa Crespo Iglesias were awarded with the first, second and third prize of Camellia reticulata in any color or variegation, respectively; Carmen Costas Alonso, Ana Isabel Calo Torrado and Mercedes Pita Mon were awarded with the first, second and third prizes of hybrid camellias; Rubia Almuiña´s family and Carlos Comendador Rey, the first and second prize of Camellia japonica pink or other colour; María Cruz Coello and Carlos Comendador Rey, the first and second prize of red Camellia japonica; Fernando Vila Gómez and María Teresa Díaz first and second prize of Camellia japonica mottled or variegated and Eusebio López Redondo and Manuela Couso Ares the first and second of Other species of Camellia.
