PHYTOSANITARY WARNING

13/08/2009

GRAPEVINE Phenological stage: veraison
Mildew:Ver Fotos

Due to the warm environmental conditions and the high temperatures recorded during these days, mildew spots observed last week have remained unchanged. Even in plants that were untreated along the year the infection is under control and there is not sporulation. Thus, while the environmental conditions remain unchanged the risk is very low, even more bearing in mind that in the veraison stage (not totally generalized) bunches are not affected by the disease.

Oidium:Ver Fotos

At the veraison stage the fungus does not damage bunches and symptoms are only observed in those bunches named sucker shoots and also in some leaves from plots in which symptoms have been already observed.

Botrytis: Ver Fotos

Dry conditions observed during these days, which are expected to extend until next week, have not favoured the occurrence of new symptoms. However, we know that along the varaison-ripening stage, the disease could affect harvest, thus monitoring should be maintained, especially in those vines showing any type of lesion on the berries.

Moths:Ver Fotos

Granos atacados por larva de polillaThe number of captures in the traps was similar to that observed during last week, but once again an increase on the number of larval penetrations was reported, not only for the direct damages produced but for its incidence on botrytis.

Green mosquito and other cicadellidae:Ver Fotos

Cicadélidos - Hembra de Scaphoideus titanusTreatments applied to those plots in which the threshold of tolerance has been reached have been very effective, highly reducing their populations to levels almost inexistent. Regarding Scaphoideus titanus, we have not captured new specimens along this week, but monitoring should be maintained.

Mites:Ver Fotos

Along this week we have not observed any additional symptom or populations on leaf samples. Neither in those samples submitted to Areeiro we have observed any signs of the aphid presence. Monitoring should be maintained and we should not treat unless its presence is confirmed.

APPLE TREE
Scab:Ver Fotos

Manchas incipientes de moteadoIn spite of the environmental conditions observed during these days in most areas, in the monitoring plot in Lalín intense dew has been recorded and has favoured the apparition of new symptoms on terminal leaves. Thus, we have decided to renew the treatment and the same should be done in other plots with similar conditions. In case they are treated we must be aware of the security term of the fungicide selected in the earlier varieties.

Cydia pomonella:Ver Fotos

Capturas de machos de Carpocapsa pomonella en una semanaThe number of adults collected in the traps was enough to justify a new treatment to avoid damage to the fruit (it is necessary to choose insecticides with a short safety term in the earliest varieties).

Woolly aphid:Ver Fotos

Eriosoma lanigerum - Pulgon Lanigero parasitadoWe are still observing an increment in the level of parasitism of Aphelinus mali, thus if the activity of the parasitoid is observed it must not be treated with insecticides.

Red mite:Ver Fotos

Environmental conditions observed along this week have favoured the development of the red spider; however, in general mite populations have not increased. Monitoring should be maintained, bearing in mind that mite presence should be confirmed before treating.
