PHYTOSANITARY WARNING

13/03/2009

GRAPEVINE
Several pests and diseases:

Due to the stable environmental conditions, grapevines are beginning to develop buds. We are beginning to give advice on likely treatments.

Cneorrhinus dispar adult
Most plants are still in C stage (green tip) and thus we must monitor shoot development to detect rust mites or curculionids. In case any problem is detected, we must confirm the source by analysis.

Phomopsis viticola (Phomopsis cane and leaf spot) - Symptoms on leaf When the grapevine is in a more advanced stage (stage D- first leaves), plants must be treated against excoriosis in those grapevines in which the presence of the pathogen is confirmed. A contact fungicide such as maconzeb or folpet is advised.

So far it is early to initiate a treatment against mildew. Oospore germination needed for fungal primary infection did not take place (neither favourable environmental conditions). Next week we will check plants in search for oospores' germination and issue a new warning.
