PHYTOSANITARY WARNING

13/04/2009

GRAPEVINE
Grapevine mildew:

Weather forecast announces unstable weather for the following days, heavy showers and relatively low temperatures. In general, rain alternating with dry periods favour mildew development, thus special attention should be paid to the grapevine since symptoms of the pathogen could appear.

VARIOUS CROPS
Damage by hail and frost:

During the last days, some areas in Galicia have experienced heavy frosts that have burnt plant shoots. In addition, during the last week other areas have been subjected to quite strong hails. At present, as shoots are still tender, those plants damaged by these weather phenomena should be treated with captan.

KIWI PLANT
Pseudomonas syringae::

Since blooming period in kiwi plants is now about to take place, it is advised to search for necrosis and/or spots on flower buds, leaves, etc. These symptoms could be produced by this bacterium, but it needs to be confirmed by analysis. If positive, it is recommended to apply cupper-based products (also these products could be applied as a preventive measure)

OAK
Altica quercetorum:

Symptoms of Altica quercetorum attack were observed in some areas of Lugo and Ourense provinces (in the phytosanitary warning of March 20th we have warned about the possibility of apparition of damages caused by the pathogen). Registered products for the control of this pest in Spain are deltamethrin and flufenoxuron that should be applied covering completely the vegetation.

CAMELLIA
Aphids:

First colonies were observed in the shoots. In case these insects are detected, it is advised to apply an imidacloprid, cipermetrin or tau-fluvalinate based insecticide. All these products are registered for use by the Ministry of Agriculture in Spain.
