ABSTRACT: At present, the
studies on plant-parasitic nematodes associated with genus Camellia are
scarce. As this ornamental plant is abundant in Galicia, during year 2003, a
nematodes sampling was performed in several Galician public parks and gardens
with camellias. The aim of the present work is to find out which plant
pathogenic nematodes are associated with this ornamental culture. 72 of these
gardens were sampled: 31 in Pontevedra, 20 in Coruña, 12 in Lugo and 9
in Orense. In each sampling point, four camellia soil and root samples were
taken. To make the extraction of soil nematodes, the centrifugation sugared
method was used and the phloxine stain technique to determine the root-knot
nematodes presence. The nematodes found belong to genus Xiphinema,
Trichodorus, Paratrichodorus, Hemicriconemoides, Macrophostonia, Pratylenchus,
Helicotylenchus, Rotylenchus and Meloidogyne
