ABSTRACT: Ctenarytaina
eucalypti Mask belonging to the family Psyllidae was first reported in
Northwest Spain in the first half of the 70's causing damages on eucalyptus. In
January 2003 another species of the same family, Ctenarytaina spatulata
Taylor was found on a stand of Pontevedra province attacking adult foliage
and producing necrotic lesions and an irregular growth on shoots. Since it was
first reported, a survey was performed to know the distribution of the disease
in the province. The results obtained showed an expansive distribution (its
presence has been also reported in the four Galician provinces and in
Asturias), but the actual extent of its damages is difficult to assess. A
preliminary study about its biology has also been performed. The results
obtained with this study showed that this insect was active along the year with
higher densities of population in Spring and Summer seasons. Regarding
biological control measures of possible implementation, predators that could be
efficient for the biological control of this insect were also found in our
survey.
