ABSTRACT:      White root rot caused by Armillaria genus, has caused important damage in vineyard plantations in Galicia. The use of PCR-RFLP techniques for the identification of species have shown that Armillaria mellea is the most abundant. Control of this disease is difficult due to its persistence in the soil, because it is a saprophytic fungus, and the presence of rhyzomorphs and because it lives inside plants, between the wood and the bark. With the use of chemicals in vitro good results were obtained, but their use on the field was not completely efficient, and so far any active ingredient proved to be useful for the control of this pathogen. The arbuscular mycorrhizae (AM) could play an important role on the plant protection against fungal root pathogens.
